Baking with a toddler

We’ve not had the best weather this week, so we decided we would stay in the warm, dry comfort of our home and do some baking to cheer us up.

I recently discovered the amazing stuff that is Jus Rol!  It’s so simple and easy to use and you do exactly what it says on the pack, just roll and do what ever you want with it.  Ellie and I picked up some Jus Rol pastry while we were out shopping at the weekend and sent Josh out for some jam and lemon curd later in the week (although he came back with jam and marmalade…doh!) to make jam tarts.

They really were the most simple things to make and Ellie loved it.  She rolled the pastry, cut out circles and put them into a cake tray ready to fill with jam or marmalade.  We preheated the oven to 180 degrees and baked for 10 minutes.  She was so proud of them and told me who each one was for, although once they were cool she forgot about sharing them and proceeded to lick the jam out of most of them!

Tonight we found another fantastic Jus Rol product whilst picking up some milk in the local shop…Jus Rol pain au raisin.  You literally open the can and its ready for you to cut into sections!  Again, Ellie did most of the prep herself and loved every minute.  She feels such a sense of achievement and is so proud of herself, again telling me who each one was for.

I do realise that this is kind of cheating, but you really can’t go wrong when using it to bake with a toddler.  It is so simple and easy to use, and most importantly it’s delicious!  We regularly cook from scratch and do lots of baking, but on week nights when we are all home from work and nursery it is starting to get late this is the perfect quick and easy treat to make for supper.  We will be on the look out for more of their range now, and after a nosey at the Jus Rol website I’m looking forward to doing lots more baking and cooking new things with Ellie.
